Architectural Examples 1

Brick Work

Bricks are worked into position in foundations and walls. The footings are shown with two or more courses to each offset; this is done where great security against settlements is desirable, but is seldom done, and mostly footings are put in with a single course to each offset. The bricks are laid so as so to get as many headers as possible in the trench. The cross bond will be seen in sections.

Chimneys

Below images contain various forms of chimney stacks. Some of these have openings at the sides for escape of smoke, some are finished with stone dressings or stone tops, chimney pots, or bafflers.

    Molding

Roman and Greek moulds are alike in proportioned of fillet and astragal. With exception of the astragal or bead, Greek moulds are either elliptical or parabolic. The Roman moulds are formed of parts of circles.
